A Widow's Prayer
By Sali
Lord, you know, my husband,
We waked him yesterday
And all the money we had,
Went to the funeral home that day.
He was always sickly;
Couldn’t afford insurance-
Please give me your comfort
And your steady reassurance
That you will supply all my needs
As I give all I have away.
Lord, please, help me,
To help others, in all
I say and do. Help me,
To be a giver and give
All I have to you-
My neighbors said I’m crazy,
Giving two pennies away
To the church, It’s foolish!
Save them for a rainy day.
That’s what they said,
But, I hear what You say.
Lord, I know You, loving
Kind, always giving me more
Than just my peace of mind-
It was your comfort I felt,
When the bearers took away
The husband I loved forever-
But, I heard Your voice say,
Give and it will be given”
I’m giving back to You.
Thank You for what You
Gave to me and I must
Thank You for being You.
Thank you, Lord, I can
Give O so cheerfully and
Not because I have plenty
To go back home to
Or out of necessity for
Some son or daughter
Less fortunate than myself-
Give me a giving heart
That’s always willing to help.
Lord, give me, a clean heart,
A heart that’s more like you-
For when I give others,
I give myself to You.
Help me, not to pretend giving,
Like some people do-
I’m willing to give You
All I have, for I am giving,
Giving love back to You.
Amen~
