Winter Tide
The tide washed into the bay,
causing
the tall saw grass to bend and sway.
There
was an increasing chill coming
in the air as
I stood there staring out at
between here
and no where.
The big watery blue meets
the azure sky
on a pencil thin line,
a sail boat
was rocking down in the cove.
I just stared
as if unknowing.
The smell of salt
and sea were stronger now,
coming on the
breeze,
the thin veneer
of time
was being stripped away.
I had never noticed
these things before.
Just wake, sleep, eat and love,
never enough
time for the smell of the sea
or a quiet
walk on the beach.
The feel of the sand in your
sandals,
sand in your hair.
I watch the waves
wash the sand out to sea.
I think that
I will winter here
by the sea.
