Today
Today is when the honest are wretched
And thieving knaves knighted
When eyes are not for seeing
And ears not for hearing
Today is water is carried in packets
And food carried in pockets
Water is everywhere yet people thirst
And when it comes to today, it is me first
We live in an age where misery is carried in sacks
And when people live in shacks arrayed in racks
Today’s age is stunted like snails on speed tracks
Today’s worries burrows foreheads into cracks
Today is when tongues wag without talking
Eyes are bright, yet totally unseeing
Ears are sharp, but completely unhearing
Everything is abundant, yet life’s not worth living
We live today when the thin wish to be obese
Where the obese aspire to be thin as reeds
Today, enlightenment is at a peak
But ignorance makes the horizon bleak
Today truth flees in the face of lies
Facts are dampened by the cries
Without it the future is impossible
Because tomorrow would unreachable
Today can be everything and yet nothing
Tomorrow lives the dreams that mean something
Today is when dreams are only scattered
Tomorrow is when dreams are truly shattered
Today is when youth is eternal
When mistakes are vain and tragic
Tomorrow is when age is banal
When a slight error is cause for panic
We live in today and yet run from it
We hope for tomorrow and yet fear it
Today the world is a panorama
Tomorrow is hedged by a cyclorama
Today
There is no life without today
For today begets the hope to tomorrow
Without today, crushed is tomorrow.
