The Time Has Come
The time has come when children feast at their parents wedding
When wards reject time honored words to go searching
And adopt cultures with veracity still pending
Picking and dropping friendships with a tenacity that is unending.
The time has come when education is confusing
When teachers are themselves perplexing
Teaching with methods that are totally unconvincing
And proffering solutions that are simply amazing.
The time has come when credit is given for destroying
And medals awarded to those whose call is killing
Drenching the earth with blood in ways that are terrifying
While we pretend that these things are to us horrifying.
The time has come when there is fear in growing
And even greater fear in aging and dying
As we try even harder to stop from wilting
Refusing to accept that nature is forever unrelenting
The time has come when truth means nothing
When we lie with sacred texts that used to mean something
All to get things that leave us yet still craving
Sharing no shade and no shame from the tilted awning.
The time has come when dirges herald rites of christening
When pyres precede people no good at pretending
While leadership is the lot of those good at looting
Overloading vaults that would astound those in banking.
The time has come when merit is wasting
And cheating is without compare most paying
But this only for those in the knowing
And those who realize that laws are for breaking.
The time is coming....
