Things You See

Things You See

What are the things you see?
Do you see ashes?
Do you see dust?
Iron filings that coat the floors that are only meant to rust?
Maybe you can see that door too...

What are the things I see?
Graveyards
Rain
Gore of a kind
Maybe it's all in my mind

What about the things you deny seeing?
Do you see the ghostly images of those from the past?
From the present?
Maybe even the future.
What if none of it is real?

What do I deny seeing?
Happiness
Hatred
The four lettered word that starts with L
Hah, if you guessed love, you're right.

What about the things only you can see?
Look into the mirror and what do you see behind you?
The past.
How about when you look at you?
The future

So if you see the past behind you and the future is you
What is the present?
The entire image
That's right.
All of it

Rust coated circular metal walls
Iron bars sticking out
Are those some things you've seen?
So do you want to know my secret?
Of course you do.

Sometimes.
In a world of Imagination
The only thing real is yourself.
But that, my friends, is only
Sometimes.

So once more I ask
What are the things you see?
Do you see ashes?
Do you see dust?
Those iron filings on the floor that are only meant to rust?

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
