THE WORLD CHANGED, WITH THE BLINK OF AN EYE
the world is a different place
than the one i grew up in,
so many years pass.
people have come and gone
hearts have been lost and found,
my roads turned into path's.
it's mid November
and i sit with sleeveless shirt in the yard,
winter has seemed to forgotton us.
our little town
has grown to the point
where nothing seems a must.
baseball on Saturdays,
church on sundays,
all in one place.
now there are at least 10 churches
5or6 ball feilds,
it's almost like the life i had,
has been misplaced.
i still live on the same road
where i grew up so many years ago,
but all the children are gone.
there's no more voices
echoing thru the trees,
as night gives way to the dawn.
there's no more sounds
of boys and girls
as they walk up and down the street.
the sounds of laughter
and childish fun
as we played hide and seek in the dark
to escape the days heat.
there were 24 children
on this street
back in 1975.
we live in a totally different world
a totally different time,
the main thing being,
is that we lived,
how wonderful it was to be alive.
i stayed here
and took a little peice of land
that now i call home.
i've worked for it,
i've fought for it,
bled for it.
46 years later,
i finally call it my own.
i've watched my freinds
grow up and leave
one by one,
i was alone.
sometimes i wonder
where they are, how their doing
those that have not been burried
in the cold, cold ground.
a nieghbor mows his yard
i can barely see him
thru the trees.
his daughter was
once my goddess of love
back when we were teens.
like the rest, she broke my heart
like those before and after
and left me to bleed.
there's only been 6 women
in my whole life
love hurts way to much.
and sence the world is changing
nothing like ther place i grew up
the loss of my hand,
persciption drugs,
memories and such.
i live in fear,
of hopes and dreams.
midnight screams
of life and death. steve
