The Protector
The protector hides as it watches it’s pray
It waits to attack, it waits to kill
He slowly creeps upon the deer
Suddenly, he launches
The deer is dead with one swift bite
A howl ripples through the air
More howls answer in reply
The Protector drags the food to its cave
A group of seven emerges from within
They eye the deer and their alpha carefully
He signals for them to eat, they do
Soon there is nothing left but bits of bone
The pack retreats to their den of a cave
The protector stands guard at the mouth
He watches the woods warily
He catches a scent that is unwelcomed
Defensive and growling he stands
Three more wolves appear by him
They smell the unwanted guest
A banished wolf from their pack
She silently saunters toward the growling wolves
The pack tightens around the mouth of the cave
She senses that the pack is stronger now
The protector stands in the center
He gives her a warning growl
Silently and slowly he approaches her
She sees the protectiveness in his eyes
Slowly she begins to back off
Seeing there is nothing she can do now, she leaves
The Protector waits until he can no longer smell her
He signals for the others to rest
They all enter the cave and he guards again
He has kept them safe today
Still, silently, he guards and protects…
It waits to attack, it waits to kill
He slowly creeps upon the deer
Suddenly, he launches
The deer is dead with one swift bite
