The Mirror
You stand before the mirror, it can tell no lies
All you see is pain and fear, which comes as no surprise
There is no hidden agenda, in all that you see
Because it costs you nothing, for there is no fee
It will always tell the truth, no matter what you want
When you look into it, your secrets they will taunt
The secret things that you should tell, they want to come out
But you will not let them, so in the mirror they shout
They shout at you to let them out, so they can be heard
But you can’t let them out; you can’t utter a word
But you know there are some, which need to be told
But you won’t let go of them, they need to be controlled
But looking in the mirror, they are taunting you
Your eyes are giving you away; you need to be true
The reflection in the mirror, doesn’t look like you
The person you are seeing, seems to be askew
Everything inside of you, is trying to come out
You don’t want to let it, so you start to shout
But you know you don’t dare, utter any sound
Somebody might hear you, if they are around
Then they will want to know, what was all the yelling
You don’t want to explain, you’re secrets you’d be telling
So you keep it to yourself, the secrets that you hide
No one else needs to know, the real you inside
Only in the mirror, do you see your real self
Not the one you show around, and keep up on the shelf
That one is a phony, it is just for show
That is the only one they see, the only one they know
All the secrets that you keep, are eating you inside
If you were to let them out, you fear you’d have to hide
Then one day a few slip out, out into the room
And you look around you, sure that there is doom
Your husband looks at you, and says “It’s about time”
It really wasn’t all that bad, nobody committed a crime
He said he knew it all along, he just wouldn’t say
He figured he could wait it out, at least until today
Now you have a few more secrets, which you need to tell
But you are afraid of him, afraid that he might yell
So you just let go of them, those secrets deep inside
Your husband he just looks at you, as if trying to decide
Then he says “I love you”, and takes you in his arms
Because when the truth comes out, it really never harms
Now when you look in the mirror, and see the real you
You don’t have to look away, it doesn’t look askew
You see a beautiful person, you haven’t seen before
That person is the real you, the one you had in store
Now that you have seen her, and you like what you see
No more secrets will you keep, you will set them free
All you see is pain and fear, which comes as no surprise
There is no hidden agenda, in all that you see
Because it costs you nothing, for there is no fee
It will always tell the truth, no matter what you want
When you look into it, your secrets they will taunt
