    STOP THE WORLD

    Seal up the sun.

Dull the brightness of its gold!

I want no more of it.

Scratch out the eyes of night

so blind stars will plummet to the Earth.

Punished in the corner of unrequited love,

    I am small and insignificant.

Only the dunce cap coning on my head

    says a fool sits here.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
