Still As Ever

Still As Ever

The Earth stood still,
Not a moment to spare,
Dangerous actions,
Brought us here,
Arguments rose,
Pollution spread,
Evil thoughts were thought,
All the way to the end,
Peace was broken,
Wars began,
Others were killed,
Some were wounded,
Families were torn apart.
Opposite sides,
Not true to their hearts,
Some were good,
But most were angry,
Angry with themselves,
Angry with the world,
And that's the reason,
Why the Earth stood still.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
