SKY-KID
SKY-KID
just step out into freefall
at 140 MPH
no sound but rushing wind
as it ripples your face
raise an arm and spin crazily
or put arms at sides
legs out behind
to bullet-fly
whipping across the sky
watching the ground
rise up to greet you
altimeter's reminder
time to pull the cord
and WHOOSH a rush
straight up vertical
human cannon ball
glide to earth see landscape
from a different perspective
(unwillingly) select a place
where gravity will reign supreme
but not forever
another quest for freedom
will gnaw at you
and the wait will not be long
loose the bonds
that fasten and hold you captive
unfettered unencumbered
untethered
just step out
three or four minutes of freedom
away from gravity's grip
free to taste the clouds
free to smell their essence
free to feel their vapor
caress your skin
free to be Sky-Kid again
