AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

AN ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM

There's an elephant in the room and we all talk around it. Its presence fills the entire space. It doesn't make a sound. It stands there, quietly. Can't be missed. But no one seems to mind it. And some get up and walk in front while others walk behind it. Yet there it is. It's not discussed. Doing so would justify it. A great big problem in the room but we simply deny it.

Usually when I've done the elephant walk myself it's because I'm trying to spare someones feelings and don't want to hurt them (loved ones), otherwise I'm a kinda In Your Face kind of guy, especially if they get in my face first. Luckily I haven't had to skirt too many pachyderms in my life. Blessings, Whiskers

So glad you got the real meaning behind this one, my friend. I certainly wasn't writing about a zoo. Sherlock

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
