Remedy for a dream

Remedy for a dream

She woke me this morning, early
"Mommy, Mommy, Mommy!"
Sobbing and frightened from a nightmare
I rushed in to see what was wrong
Holding her anguished little body
She shook and cried while I rocked her
Needing far more comfort than a few words
I took her back into my room
Holding her small hand and smoothing her damp brow
She snuggled close beside me
Sharing my pillow, breathing slowing down
I marveled that I was the one she ran to for comfort
This sweet little child of mine.

I remember those times. Right after their mom left and I was all they had. I learned quickly, the most important thing I could do was let them know I was there and would never leave. Good poem, TS

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
