Friends, not Lovers

Friends, not Lovers

I share my innermost thoughts with you
My Friend, my confidant
There is nothing more intimate
Than sharing with my Friend
So why are you not my Lover?

We tried to be more than Friends
Many years in the past
It was awkward and stilted
Just too uncomfortable
So we decided to be Friends.

I trust you unquestionably
You will never hurt me
I can hold your hand and it's comfortable
Not the electric sensations from a Lover
We are Friends, not Lovers.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
