Poem Commentary

I wrote this poem as a song in 2008. I post it today, in memory and honor of my friend; Kenny Trask II who passed away at age 33.. 7-27-09, and my sister; Kelly Bassett-Murray who passed away at age 32.. in May of 2004. And, my neice Robin Johanson who passed away at age 19..in 2006..and many others that have left far to soon.

RAINBOW LOST

I'm searching for a rainbow To bring this storm it's end We need those colors to fill the sky Will you search with me, my friend Will you help the rain to end? OUR RAINBOW IS LOST I saw a photo on the news It crushed my heart within Of a woman bound, and abused Just because she has dark skin My brother, please free this world from sin Have you ever seen a bruised-up child And looked the other way How did it make you feel to learn That he died the very next day My sister, why do only the helpless pay I've heard the grief in a parent's voice As they lay their child in ground Addiction, and greed shattering lives To here their cries is a painful sound They scream, when will our rainbow be found This world needs a rainbow No matter what the cost The broken souls that walk the earth Cannot survive While the rainbow is lost

Yes I agree the world does need a rainbow! I liked the way you gave examples of the lost rainbow. Though this one was sad for me just more to reflect on as this poem is so true.

I really like this, this would be good lyrics for a song. It would be a good one..

great work that too for the memory of friends and relatives. a rainbow brings joy in every heart and i hope that will be there in yours too. good work.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
