Politic Sirens
Politic Sirens
They look at us with their perforated edges,
So neat and perfect in their condescension.
They spew honey-bitter words, emit echo-empty pledges
To extinguish spotlights from truths deserving attention.
We’ve all heard them: Siren-seductresses when sights seem blocked,
With assurance of safe harbor if we follow their song.
But alas, hopes dashed as we are bashed on lie-rocks.
They fly away, never to say how they were horribly wrong.
Fib factories for deception seize whole lives and curtail,
Clip-compress-cauterize down to misconstrue bites of sound.
Entire hours of truth cocoon-trapped behind one minute veils.
They rely solely on our ignorance of inquiry to confound.
Let me rip off the blinder that tunnels my vision!
And let peripherals flood, bathing the unwashed eye.
Tell the Siren “Be silent!” Guide none to death’s decision.
Yield only to Holy, ‘til this system has died.
