Out From the Flame

    Out From the Flame

I sit alone, quietly staring into the flame

I watch the shadows of darkness and light

    wrestle like my unbalanced self

I reunite with passion and desire

Raw and untamed, yet not physical

    Removed from the flesh

I desire the essence of the flame

I desire pure love and the peace and happiness

    that lies within

I want to be washed in the flame

    Purified and reborn

With the wings of a phoenix

    Out from the flame

    I will soar…

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
