Night (Loss of a Hope)

Night (Loss of a Hope)

Maybe I'm just a weirdo
Getting flustered is silly
But I'm a beast and a monster
Loved in fairytales only
Watching out for the one
Never finding the one
When I think that I'm done
I just look for the sun
And find that the night
Of my discontent
Is thoroughly incomplete

So I no longer sing to "you"
But sing only of she
Because I know she'll never hear it
And that leaves only me
To carry in the shadows
The darkness my friend
The night isn't over
Of my discontent

It was casual; nothing
One-Way sweet nothings
Whispered to an ear
Shut but to the muffling
Of a crying in the corner
And my tears fall silent
The night my only mourner
Of my discontent

Murdered are the dreams
Woven once before
Hurled into the sea
To be dreamt of nevermore
And yet I sit quietly
With my thread and needle
Hoping to weave again
A dream free form evil
But this hope spells madness
And I'm far from insane
So my night's not quite over
Till I find hope again

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
