Fear You

Fear You

I could pull a Shakespeare
And count the ways
Tell you you're beautiful
But I'm too afraid
I can see it in your eyes
The feeling's mutual
But my mind won't realize
My heart doesn't want the usual
The rest of my body is right
With my heart they agree
My lungs can't hold much
And I'm weak in the knees
Every time you're in my thoughts
My heart skips a beat or two
So I'm surprised I'm not dead
It stopped when I first looked at you
Wish you would look back
With your eyes so fierce
It motivates me, your gaze
Reaches in my chest to pierce
And while looking we set trends
Everyone stares, too
They ask me about it
Ask me what me and you
Mean to each other
I know what my answer could be
But my heart skips borrowed beats
And I climb back up my lonely tree

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
