    Love and Life

An infant child suckles from mother’s breast
A brother defends his sister’s honor with bloody fists
A husband and wife bond with I do’s forever
Best friends whisper secrets and giggle together
It’s often mistaken for admiration or lust
It’s unabridged and yet sorely lacking
Sex can make it or break it
It’s completely jam-packed or totally inadequate
It’s unconditional or full of limitations/ restrictions
It’s bursting with life and yet filled with death
It’s life’s greatest mystery and death’s greatest regret
Its contradictions are all best known
In our life it is our best known clone

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
