    Life

I choked down tap water while they drank gasoline

Veterans cough up change to feed the machine

Spinning tires cut the tar a deeper shade of black

While the eye of the needle watches the straw break the camel’s back

We danced to the beat of a shotguns blast

We shook up the odds till the die was cast

Sing the anthem of plague till the alcoholic swallowed his disease

Because when life is a hurricane love is a breeze

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
