keeping time with heartbeats
you never know what you're doing
always bouncing from thought to thought
decisions fed to the dead
better to follow than be fought
held close to the second hand
being kept in sync by the clock
a machine that feels no pain
no life, no love, and no loss
blindly going in circles
crossing numerals over and again
the view never seems to change
just a window to befriend
keeping constant timing
with the rhythm of your chest
the up and down motion
of your breast with each breath
i long to know that you are more
than mechanics on the inside
and before i venture deeper
i'll only offer this advice
hold your ear close to the gears
i'll tie my heart to the pendulum
and when the weights hit the floor
maybe we'll feel what we love
always bouncing from thought to thought
decisions fed to the dead
better to follow than be fought
held close to the second hand
being kept in sync by the clock
a machine that feels no pain
no life, no love, and no loss
blindly going in circles
crossing numerals over and again
the view never seems to change
just a window to befriend
keeping constant timing
with the rhythm of your chest
the up and down motion
of your breast with each breath
i long to know that you are more
than mechanics on the inside
and before i venture deeper
i'll only offer this advice
hold your ear close to the gears
i'll tie my heart to the pendulum
and when the weights hit the floor
maybe we'll feel what we love
