    In The Surf

At a place called The Surf
    I watched it happen

As the sun set on teeming waters
    Charming women dangled themselves
    Like shimmering lures
    Splashing and dashing
    The ripples widened
A school of hungry men circled
    Eager in the fading light
    Eying another meal

The bold ones muscled in for the first bite
The reckless ones dashed in for a quick steal
The little ones fought for the odd scraps
The shy ones watched it all unfold

The flashy lures were snatched first
Like fine morsels at a grand feast
Other lures appeared wounded or lost
    To make themselves irresistible
And some lures relied on soft murmurings
    To dazzle and deceive

    The feeding frenzy began
The water swirled and the tide ebbed
Hooks snared and lines peeled away
The bold and reckless made their runs
And were reeled in one by one
The little ones were mostly thrown back
The shy ones either enjoyed a good meal
    Or just swam away quietly

The next morning The Surf was silent in the fog
Except for a few gulls feeding near the dumpster

I see that you're also a good storyteller, and in so few lines you build it up to a climax and then let it come full cirlce. Great Job!!!

    Morbid

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.

Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) Greek philosopher.
