    I Won't Walk Here Anymore

    I Won’t Walk Here Anymore

    I find myself here again,
On a path I’ve walked before.
But this time things are different,
    I won’t walk here anymore.

    Tired of feeling so alone
When, in truth, I’m in a crowd.
This world seems so distant now,
Even though the screams grow loud.

Where is the wrong in leaving
This world ‘s horrid, tiresome sod…
    To enter through Heaven’s gates,
And behold the throne of God?

    I find myself here again,
On a path I’ve walked before.
But this time things are different,
    I won’t walk here anymore.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
