How Many Birthdays

How Many Birthdays

How many birthdays will it take
Til the hour your heart doesn't ache
How many years will cleanse away
The freak show of fears gone astray

The candle burns slowly atop the cake
Will you truly be able to ever forsake
The terror you insist on calling your own
Addicted to the spine tingling inaudible moan

At what age was this fear bestowed upon you
The nightmare within is actually untrue
Awaken your heart if only for a moment
Maybe what you are feeling is tainted atonement

Forgiveness is the means my friend
Embrace it somehow or your panic will never end
Or remain forcing your soul to dance on a stage
For birthdays within the iron cage
