Happy Valentine's Day, My Love...

This is a poem from my up-coming book, "Caught Between I Love You & Goodbye - Loving & Losing Melissa" due out this summer. This poem talks about her struggle with self-destruction through her eating disorder. It talks of my love for her, my faith in her and my undying promise that I'd never let her go.

She let go.

In favor of her eating disorder, today she continues to pay homage to the one thing that will ultimately take her life: Bulimia & Anorexia.

I wanted to give her a life free from this pain.

When we met, she took my breath away...

and, she never gave it back.

Thank you all for reading...

Happy Valentine's Day, My Love

You’ve given me an early Valentine’s Day present,

Your silence rings ever loud and clear as my gift, my penance.

The social internal holocaust you rage on,

The real you, you cage on,

While others planted your seeds of self-destruction,

You cared for and watered them and let them thrive into

A full-blown massacre of a body you hate,

A mind muddled, a heart so lonely, a soul you were so unwilling to decorate,

And a spirit unloved.

You are in a cage that from the outside has no key.

You have that key.

You refuse to use it.

You can,

But you won’t.

You don’t deserve it, you say,

This is a dirty game, you play.

You are the answer, you are the happy ending.

The one you don’t deserve; the one you want.

But the one you fear, so desperately,

And it’s taking your life, and though you care, you don’t care ENOUGH.

You slit your wrists without razors,

You slash all hope for your future,

You deprive yourself of what you need, what you want, what you deserve.

Instead of loving what you are, you hurt yourself,

In ways no one understands.

I understand.

I love you.

I will hold you, until you can love yourself, and even after.

Take my gift; DON’T spit in y face,

DON’T give me excuses, DON’T hurt me anymore.

You have one body, one life, and then it’s gone,

And your hope dies, because your body can’t take it anymore.

Your actions will backfire on you.

You’re not invincible.

You’re NOT going to win this war.

You will lose.

You’ve already lost much.

But you’re convinced you have all the answers.

I love you.

But I WONT take your bullshit anymore.

I can’t.

Because your war is taking my will to live, to believe in life, love and the pursuit of happiness.

It’s not working.

You know this.

Yet you press on.

You’re NOT strong.

You’re weak, you’re settling.

In order for you to know where you’re going,

You have to know where you’ve been.

You KNOW this.

You HAVE the answers.

Scary as they are, you do.

You have power,

But you’re afraid of it.

USE IT!

Punch you war in the face, just like it does to you every day.

Stand up, fight.

Don’t TRY it, DO it!

WOW. I lost my wife to Heaven two years ago from a self-destructive behavior. I am sorry this is what is happening to someone you love and care for.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
