Grim's Fight
I am feared by most
I will come to greet all.
Your time will come too
And I will answer the call.
My job is a serious one
And I take it as such.
The breath of life
Snuffed out by my touch.
Universally known
By Death or the Reaper.
Of Souls passing on
I am their Keeper.
My existence is dark
Solitary and devoid.
So when I took notice
Naturally, I was annoyed.
Who is this Other
Who dare intrude on Me?
Who is this Other
So similiar to Thee?
Following me around
Like a lost little dog!
Mimicking my moves
Moving in a fog.
This is not a game
There is no fun here.
How did you come to be?
Imposing on my career!
This job's meant for one
Go on, GET OUT!
No reaction at all
As he carries about.
Then a thought
Crosses through my hood.
What if he's here for me?
Hmm, that's no good.
But I'm the One
Sickle over my back
Of all the death's
to tally and keep track.
Can death be killed?
Does Death have an end?
Panic ensues
I will defend!
But how? This is new
The emotional range
Is a different experience
Something quite strange.
I'm hurt and angry
and scared and upset.
Is this how humans feel?
Is this how they get?
Poor, pathetic little beings
Now I understand their fear
When the end draws close
And I suddenly appear.
I will fight 'til the end
Death is what I do!
I Am Death, Yes I Am!
And I will scare you!
I muster everything
I have within me.
I turn to fight
to make him flee.
I release my powers
In one massive ball.
Nothing, nada, zip
No reaction at all.
Frustrated and confused
This is a first.
I'm usually pretty scary
Especially at my worst.
That was everything
I had within me.
What to do now?
To get him to flee?
For the first time ever
I hang my head.
Defeat feeling heavy
A feeling of dread.
I notice something strange
As I turn to surrender.
His reaction is identical
He's not the offender.
Hmm, peculiar behavior
For the winner of Grim.
That's when I notice
The similiarities of Him.
It dawns on me
Then and not before
The strange other Him
Is my shadow, nothing more.
I laugh at myself
At the idiocy displayed.
All along I was worried
For this role I've been played.
I'm still the Grim
Safe and secure.
My identity back
In a world obscure.
I will come to greet all.
Your time will come too
And I will answer the call.
My job is a serious one
And I take it as such.
