days gone by

what ever became of days gone by
when a persons word was there bond
when the truth was stronger than any lie
when  following through meant something
and a Bath was something you didnt have to be told to take

when self respect was as important as respect for others
when young adults worried about there future weren't afraid to embrace a challenge. and someone didn't just walk over issues they dealt with them?
I long with hunger in my soul for the days gone by
when a child's love wasn't bought or sold
when having three grandpa's was cool
and we had enough respect to call them all grandpa
I miss the days of seeing those around me work for what they wanted and didn't just think it was going to happen
when married couples worked on there marriages and didn't just Call the lawyers at the first sign of in difference.
I miss the days gone by when a standard was something you set for yourself
a moral compass if you will to tell others what you were all about.
when oral sex was still considered sex and when reputation was more than just a word.
I miss the days gone by when we prayed for our families, our friends, our flag and our country.
when please and Thank you were freely given and when"How are you"
really meant we wanted to know how someone was.
I miss the days gone by when we put our trust in God,Our hope on the next generation to make a difference and our faith in God.
When we cherished the family, took vacations together and we spent
time at the dinner table sharing the days events.
In a world that is ever changing we seem to be losing the very things that seperate us from every where else in the world. We have misplaced our competetive edge our can do spirit and our will to do what needed to be done not just what we wanted to do. So everyday I see life
passing like the hands of time and I long for days gone by

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
