Choose Me

Baby, you always had the right words, the right thing to say
You asked if I was your soul mate
Wondering if you could really feel this way

I tried to be just friends but what you were saying Made me want more
But they were just words, as you were running for the door

I should have known from the start, running was what you would do
You told me but I thought, I hoped
This time was different for you

We spent the nights talking, laughing like nothing else mattered
Holding onto something we had dreamed about
But you got scared and my heart was shattered

You found new love, but you said she doesn’t give your heart
What it deserves, what your soul needs
Your feelings for me were messing with your heart
So you chose her and not me

Is it her beauty, her age, what is it that makes you want to stay
I can see through her games, it’s not your heart
She wants to take

Baby, I know she fits in your world better than I do,
I am just a small town girl,
But with my heart I could give you the world
She may fit but does she make you feel the way I do
Does she give you the love that makes the
earth move

Do you lay at night wishing you could hold her close Like you did me
Don’t fall for her lies, look past her beauty and choose me

Choose me and we will be better than anything we dreamed
Choose me, she’s not what your heart and soul needs
Choose me and together we will spread our wings
Choose me darling and let’s see what the road brings

You said we would be great together
It would all work out
I tried to turn away but you took away the doubt

Now the beauty Queen has something holding you thereYou left without goodbye, I know you were scared

 I won’t beg, I won’t fall on my knees
But baby forget about her and choose me

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
