Cherokee Prayer
Oh Great SpiritFather of my ancestors
Grant us the wisdom
Of the ages
Teach us to walk lightly
Upon our mother earth
Guide our footsteps
Through the paths of life
Help us to see
With eyes of the eagle
That man is not judged
By the color of his skin
But by the goodness
Of his own heart
Give us tolerence
For the white man
Who burns our villages
And rapes our land
He who takes without asking
Until all is dead and barren
Let us not fall
Into the depth of ignorance
Where the mindless dwell
Forever lost in darkness
Send us the wind
To cool our brow
And the rain
To quench our thirst
Provide us with food
When we are hungry
And shelter
When the storms blow
Look kindly upon our people
For generations to come
Until we rest peacefully
With our ancestors
