    bloody lips

    stop.
    i need to try this again.
    something went wrong along the way.
    there's something i need to fix.
    i need a redo.

    i wear happiness like a loose dress.
    i want it to look bigger then it really is.
    so i throw it on so people will not stare.
    who wants someone sad?
    who wants someone so angry
    they haven't released the fists they've formed.
    who wants that?

    not you.

    bitten lips bring blood.
    blood that thunders in your ears,
    and races through your limbs.
    i am trying so hard to defeat this.
    i really am trying.

    that's not enough.

    you can't force a happily ever after too soon.
    you can't make me live before i've finished dying.
    stop this please.
    i have to think to breathe.
    i have to lie to live.
    i have to be the person i can't be.
    let me stop.
    let me restart.
    let me.

    you won't.

    i held onto you.
    you held on too.
    once.
    but now i'm reaching for a retreating hand.
    a person that walks away.
    stop.
    i try to stop you.

    i can't.

    bitten lips bring blood.
    falsity brings life.
    and death brings a new existence.

    i've learned my lesson.

    stop.
    please stop.
    i need to try this again.
    won't you let me try this again?

    you won't.

    please stop.

    you don't.

    and i stop breathing.

    Very dark but none-the-less very, very good.

    Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
