Ballad of the Broken Heart

Poem Commentary

You can't expect me to write something funny and completely nonsensical in every one of these commentaries can you? This poem is dedicated to the song "House of the Rissing Sun".

Ballad of the Broken Heart

Can anyone recall the chords

To the ballad of the broken heart?

It was sung by the hordes

and we all hummed our part.

I may die right here where I sit

Starring teary eyed at the sun;

It may kill me, but I will sing it

In whole before the day is done.

Tears will splatter on the ground

Abruptly like broken glass,

When my body is found,

And my soul has had time to pass.

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
