At The Beginning

Poem Commentary

This poem is dedicated to my now Ex Girlfriend Lori VanTroost. Her and I met in college both as Music Majors. She's a very bubbly energetic outgoing woman who happened to bring out the best in me. The title At the Beginning is the very same title of the song her and I had, At the Beginning by Richard Marx & Donna Lewis.

At The Beginning

At the beginning i stood alone.

at the beginning i could not see.

i carried on through,

day after day.

till a beautiful sight,

just got in my way.

Those gorgeous blue eyes

oh, so sincere

I stopped right dead in my tracks

as she said “hey! come back”

who knew of what was soon to be.

A beautiful friendship with two hearts so pure

falling in love for that, I am sure.

Now today I continue on,

day after day.

And not a moment goes by

where she’s not on my mind.

I love her dearly, with all of my heart.

Who would’ve knew

that a man who once stood so alone,

and could not see

was able to eventually be in great harmony

with a woman as wonderful as she.

At the beginning I stand, one more time

not in pain or emptiness

but with compassion and wholeness

inspired to continue on this magnificent journey.

At least one hundred days have gone by

and plenty of moments were shared.

But not even one hundred life times can ever explain

their love thats in the air.

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
