Poem Commentary

This was written for a 16 year old friend of mine from Canada who took his life because his life was just to cruel for him. His mother abused him and treated him poorly. I wish i could of helped him more. I talked to him for over a year and did my best to make his life better inspite of the distance. He was a wonderful person with a tender passionate soul. I miss him.

Age Of Innocence

A life all shinny and new with dreams of passion that had not come true
A Soul not fully grown , trying so hard to be free.
A life snuffed out in a flash of light and then silence
An action so very real to me.

I think about the pain, the heartache , the fears
The mourning and longing and shedding of tears
Sinking deeper and deeper with no place to run
What happened to innocence? what happed to fun?

It drives you so crazy, that you loose sleep
Your in over your heard, your in way to deep.
You cry out for help, but no one was there
You are dieing inside but does anyone care?

What thoughts fill your head, the day you take your life
Were your thoughts filled with hatred or longing or strife?
Did you reach out to someone but no one was there?
did you whisper a plea for yet unanswered prayers?

I cry fo the loss of our innocence
My heart bleeds for you.
The pain at times is so great
Yet what is left to do?

So cry for our sisters, our mothers and our friends
For a life that was taken, before it could begin
No more sun, no more sunset, no more joy and no more pain
No more laughter, no more sorrow..no more tasting the rain

Pray for the loss of innocence, for i have shed many a tears
My friend your pain is all gone now, and you have no more fears.
I will miss you so much, wont you please stay in touch.
cry for the loss of innocence and a precious life that is hushed...

I will look towards the stars and dream of you....
A friend i could not help yet a friend that was true
Open your eyes and what do you see?
I open my eyes and all i see is me.............

I was having a moment of reflection when I stumbled upon this poem...the memories of the untimely loss of my brother flash before me more times than not. 'Though it's been awhile now, closure remains difficult. I appreciated the read...God bless you! pfr717

I too felt this way once...I wrote Contemplating Prayer instead. The story behind writing Contemplating Prayer involves driving an 18-wheeler, on a two-lane, backroad, in eastern New Mexico, with one knee on the steering wheel, while I wrote the poem. The note is so hard to read, cause everytime I hit a bump the pen made a scratch across the paper...but, I was able to get it out and get it down on paper. Hope you are able to read it and that it makes sense. Blessings, Randy

Sexz - A very sad and heart wrenching tribute to your friend. Suicide is definately a tough subject to deal with and write about ,, You have done both with so much love. Very nice job! I have a series of 4 poems that deal with Depression and it's sometimes devastating finality. If you would like to check them out, they are, 1) Maybe Tomorrow 2) On The Cliff's Edge 3) In My Desperate Hour 4) In A Blink Of An Eye. Thank sfor sharing this highly emotional write! :) Ken

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
