    A Picture of my Life

When I was a little girl I sat and painted a picture of how my life would look. There was the beautiful white house with the fence surrounding the outside, I painted white clouds without a drop of rain in them, a sun so glorious and bright that all could see, pecan trees placed around for the yearly picking, and a tree house not so high up in one of these glorious trees. A handsome man tall, with the most beautiful eyes, my knight in shining armor, 3 small children playing on the swing set that their dad had put up for them, all smiling on this wonderful sunny day. As I sit and look at the life that I have now chose, I wonder why my picture seems like such a far away dream. So I take out this amazing picture that I painted so many years ago and as I look I see that something is missing....

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
