A Little Town Beside The Sea

Of all the world and thinking be

My mind is one of thinking free

Where flying frogs leap to the sun

    And coconuts unzip for fun

    Crocodiles pay homage to

    Mrs. Linney and Betty Lou

And guests line up to catch a glimpse

    Of alligators jumping fence

The town comes out and wants to see

    The parking meters paying fees

Balloons will come to take the guests

To Tranquil Island where they rest

But as the veil of darkness falls

    The heavy quilted curtain draws

And there behind the friendly town

Cries the call of shadowy sound

With wings so big they block the moon

And claws so sharp they slice right through

Its eyes are cold and big as drums

    Its appetite itself becomes

But lucky for the local folk

Big Willy is a good old bloke

The claws and eyes and appetite

Serves Willy well on Sunday night

That is when all the people come

To drink and feast and come undone

Where beast and man and Willy be

A little town beside the sea

Poetry is either something that lives like fire inside you or else it is nothing, an empty formalized bore around which pedants can endlessly drone their notes and explanations.
