Poem Commentary

I could have become a statistic. I could be woe is me. I made a choice. I did not let my father's choices make me. Choices are one set of wings for my heart.

Wings for my Heart : Choices

I will not be ruled ever again!
Not by circumstances, not by men.
I will take contol. I will be strong.
I will choose for me, right or wrong.

Control issues, yea, I have a few.
But hey, what's a girl to do?
Abused as a child, also as a wife.
Bound and determined to make a new life.

I choose to be happy, rarely am I sad.
I have forgiven my ex and my Dad.
The past is but a foundation on which to build.
It gives me strength, it's the sword I weild.

If the past be the sword I weild,
Then truth is my sheild.
Choices are my armor, my helmet my will.
To fight within myself...what would I kill?

I choose not to fight within my own soul.
To leave the past, that is my goal.
Not to forget but to use,
Letting God give those who hurt other's their dues.

I choose to move forward, only glancing behind.
I choose my true self to seek and to find.
I thank the horrors I lived through, you see,
Without them I would not be me!

While I'm reading your words I am taken back to my past. I was abused by my ex and I began to use alcohol to run away from my situation. I later found that I am stronger than he made me feel and left. I also found God who helped me restore my life. Awesome!!

I am thankful to hear you have tapped into not only the strength God has bestowed upon you but His endless strength as well. Sometimes fighting the good fight is all about finding God's peace. Peace to your Heart, Lora

Knights and Soldiers, ... the most significant parts, the larger parts of thier works have nothing to do with fighting and killing, I salute you sister, wah'do

My friend, I wish you'd get my book. It will help you. This is very good. We have a lot in common.

Poetry is what gets lost in translation.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
