Poem Commentary

I use the Phoenix in my writing often. I love the anology of the Phoenix and a person who has endured trauma in their life.

Peace to your Heart

Phoenix Rising

Life Burns;
we are defined
by what we make
of ash.

Wounds heal;
the pain subsides.
Time helps heal wounds;
scars remain

Anger grows
but is wrong.
Like fire it consumes;
Let go.

Forget nothing,
learn from everything.
Learn lessons pain teaches,
Forgive always

Control belongs
to whom forgivness
is not freely given.
Control self

Phoenix rising
from life's ashes.
Rebirth tempered by fire.
Brings peace

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
