    When You Have It All

You see them on the movie screen
You see them on the stage
    Actors, rappers, singers and musicians
    All of them making millions
Now you see them on a Rehab Show
    Drunk or drugged out
    Talking about their problems
    Still on the screen
I think about what they have
    The problems they talk about
    They have NOTHING ON ME
    Homeless
    Broke
    Disabled
But they don't put us on TV
    We're arrested and put away
    For the smallest of offenses
But the rich get a slap on the wrist and sent away
    Whats the difference
Why aren't we all treated the same
If I just had one wish to make the change
    No more begging or handouts
To finally make it on my own
    To get my family back
Just for once to have it all

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
