When I Write

When I Write

When I write.

When I write,

I do not need to think,

Like the mindless pen,

with it's jet black ink,

It never needs to think a thought;

just writes the words my hand has caught.

In pattern of curve and jagged line,

When I write,

I lose all sense of time.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
