    What Would It Take?

What would it take for you to really see me?
To know me, to feel me, to hear me?
    I talk, I'm there, yet I'm invisible.
My heart is breaking, crying, bleeding.
What would it take for you to love me?
I share, I give, yet get nothing in return.
What would it take for you to forgive me?
I plead, I beg, yet you don't hear me?
What would it take for you to hold me?
I ask, I want, yet you don't feel me.
What would it take for you to make love to me?
I tell you it's yours, I scream your name, yet you show me no love.
What would it take for me to let go?
    You letting go first.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
