Today

I cried a tear today
To see if I had any left
I cried a tear today
A tear for you
A tear for me
A tear for the part of me that will always be with you.

My soul mourned today
Mourned for you
Mourned for me
Mourned for the heart that is no longer mine.
My smile
My laugh
They died today
Because without you they can’t be true.

The way the stars light the sky on a clear night
The way the breeze feels in July
Sunsets
They’ll never give me the same feeling.

What happens now?
Does the world stop turning?
Does the sun stop setting?
Does the breeze stop blowing?
Do the stars hide in the night?
For everyone else
Life goes on
The way it did before me
The way it will after I’m gone
But not for Ladye Marie.

Did you ever think that you would change someone’s life?
Turn it around and upside down?
You have
Mine
And nothing will ever be the way it was
The way it was before I knew happiness
Before I knew fear
Before I knew love
Before I knew you.

You see
Today
My smile
My laugh
They died
My soul mourned.

So I cried a tear today
To see if I had any left
I cried a tear today
A tear for you
A tear for me
A tear for the part of me that will always be with you.

A beutiful poem even if sad. I love a poem that reaches into my heart and pulls it's strings.

I wrote this poem when I was a senior in high school, 5 years ago, and I still cry when I read it. Writing, and reading poetry helps me release some of those negative emotions.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
