The Wave
I sat at water's edgeA never ending blue
Felt the grainy sand
Running through my hands
Trying to keep in pace
With the flowing of my thoughts
That kept coming back to you.
A million rays of light
Sparkling pain behind my eyes
Cool spray upon my face
The warmth of streaming tears
Left me curious if the taste
Of the salt along my lips
Was from drowning, or your lies.
Rocking with the waves
Seeking solace in their roll
Longing for their cleansing
As they spread along the shore
The scattering of debris
Left behind the wave receding
The remnants of my soul.
Intense heat upon my skin
Sun bright against the blue
Breaking from captivity
Behind the thick gray clouds
Seeping through every pore
Healing while easing the pain
Blocking my thoughts of you.
Frothy caps surround me
Keeping my head above a chore
Chilly water shoulder deep
No failing this task resolved
Choosing with care the perfect time,
Frantically paddling to stay abreast
Of my ride back into shore
