Nightmare

A best friend once I had

Yet was long ago

Transformed into someone

I no longer know

A brother once I had

How well I knew his face

Seems to me another soul

Now occupies his space

A lover once I had

Twas the center of my life

His heart he pledged to me

Chose another for his wife

A partner once I had

I trusted with my ware

Took all of my material wealth

Then left without a care

A pure world once I had

Its beauty to behold

Now badly scarred and littered

Its surface bare and cold

A nightmare once I had

But with the light of day

All these things imagined

Had somehow gone away.

Thanks so much....sometimes things seem so horrible at night and you dream about them...then the next morning it all seems to disappear!

Each piece of this poem left me thinking I know that feeling. Been there, done that, and moved on. Liked this very much. TS

I love the wording in this piece. The flow of emotion and rhythm is wonderful. The sense of loss at the end is palpable. Great job...........E

Thanks so much!

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
