    The Precipice

    Apathetic whispers fill my ears

Indifference spills over the brim of sanity

Have we lost all passion for the ethereal ambience of our once-hale earth? …

As choking wisps of sooty smoke blot out the sun's divine radiance,

And the waters of tranquil oceans stir in primeval anger,

Do we stand back idly and watch?

Do we wonder - in the habitual stupor that befits humanity - how this atrocity could have ever been allowed?

As we desperately grapple for our instant gratification, the world is suffering the consequences of our sins…

The godly pantheon looks upon us and frowns,

But the decision is not for the divine to make…

Peace and holocaust both lie in equal reach,

Which offer will we take? …

The human race teeters on the precipice of good and evil, light and dark…

However, it is not yet too late,

Look into the depths of our future…

Upon which side is humanity's highest fortune made?

Eternal questions that carry us from the Jewish Holocaust by the Nazis to the Palestinian Holocaust by the Zionists in Palestine. Would humans learn how to coexist in peace?

So many questions and so few answers. I can picture this one being read aloud. Nice.

well written and very true, great point

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
