A Dark Affirmation
From across the street,
The false owl stares at me…
And I am drawn to the dissolution in His eyes.
…Held rapt, I look on in a mixture of terror and fascination…
AND I SEE:
-Pupils dilated with death-
-Corneas punctuated by the prophecy of a bleak future-
-Irises blackened by the hellfire of foretold damnation-
And the mutual foresights that this inhuman prophet and I share portend a future world progressing only in its deterioration;
A dank world of fungus and misery lessened only by eternal sleep.
AND I WONDER:
Has humanity truly baited its own hook?
Has civilization grown so large that it distorts the seams of tranquility?
Is our once-humble world really being led to the perdition depicted by my vision?
The owl nods.
…YES…
