    The Mystery

I heard an old man cry
    he was tired of living
    but still afraid to die
    fear was unforgiving

he suddenly forgot - how to go to sleep

    Praying into the broad
    to the highest level
    Somewhere below a god
    and above a devil

He was lost in his mind - His thoughts took him deep

Never the less, they say it's for the best
He took his last breath and collapsed his chest
and now he shall know and now he shall see
if he will carryon or cease to be
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Why so mysterious
    Keeping us curious
    Does this path really end
    or does it keep going
    --
    Make us delirious
    we're staying curious
    In the rhythm of life
    we Must keep flowing
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------

I heard a young girl say
    she was having enough
    of her own life today
    it was getting to rough

She suddenly forgot - how to simply live

    Cursing throughout her mind
it was all in her head
    Peace got harder to find
as she dwelled in the dread

no lesson to learn - on how to forgive

She stares outside the window of her life
She wonders what drove her to hold this knife
Praying for an answer to make it clear
She never meant to pursue all this fear
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------
    Why so mysterious
    Keeping us curious
    Does this river of life
    actually stop flowing
    --
    Make us delirious
    we're staying curious
while on this path of life
    we know to keep going
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
So why so mysterious, I'm curious, just curious......
    --------------------------------------------------------------------
    Here we go once again
Wrap us up in a trend
Where's the truth? Behind closed doors
    Fill our minds with metaphors
Like Gods a tree and we're a leaf
We need to know beyond belief
Built to question, so keeping asking why
No few men were meant to justify
our truth, our existence, the in between
Question, until God shows up on the scene
Are we forever part of a cosmic mind
If there's a sense of Truth then there's one to find
Secondhand information is all we receive
So lets go to know beyond what we're told to believe.

    Because we're curious.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
