Sonnet

I hate the way they stared at me
The way they’ve put me down
I just want them to let me be
Leaving me crying with a frown

I hate the way they told their lies
My face a flash of red
Feeling like I deserved to die
My self esteem now dead

I hate the way they felt invincible
Making me feel so left out
Turning my world invisible
A pity end no doubt

Now they’re old shopping at a dollar store
I’m out on top, looking like Drew Barrymore!

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
