Someone Like You
A boy went to war one day,
Though he wasn't spiritual, he began to pray.
But he didnt pray for safety, like the others seemed to do,
Instead he prayed for someone to care,
Someone like his family, someone like you.
For over a year, the boy was away,
Witnessing the horrors of war, 'most every day.
But not once did he give in, not once did he complain,
Instead he learned to shut out everything,
Learned to ignore the pain.
A boy came back from war one day,
Though he wasn't spiritual, he began to pray.
But he didnt pray for his safe return, like the others seemed to do,
Instead he prayed for someone to be there for him,
Someone like me, someone like you.
I witnessed a casket being lowered today,
I watched as the flag was folded, and carried away.
Upon asking a soldier, why the family didn't attend,
He replied sadly, "Because he took his life,
Something his family couldn't comprehend."
I went to a boy's grave today,
Though I'm not spiritual, I began to pray.
But instead of cursing God for taking him, like the others seemed to do,
I prayed to God to help others like him,
Someone like their families, someone like you.
