....Said The Turkey
Thanksgiving is that time of year,
When us Turkeys sweat and shake with fear.
The farmer puts his axe to the stone,
Oh the grinding! What a deafening tone.
Sweet potato pie, cornbread, and stuffing,
I can smell it all now, God, I think I’m molting!
Potatoes and gravy, cranberry sauce,
They got ol’ Herb last year, oh, what a loss.
The farmer’s walking this way, my knees all a quiver!
My bald head is sweaty, my beard starts to shiver!
He comes to the fence and looks with a sigh.
Then, shaking his head, walks away, but why?
He heads for the Hogs, could this be a scam?
But no, this year, he’s taking a Ham!!
Oh, Rejoice! What a beautiful day!
That night in my roost, bowed my beak to say,
I thank you Lord, for our daily bread,
And sparing my life today, me keeping my head.
But most of all, I pray for the swine,
For his place on the platter could have been mine.
It’s the season of hearts, warm and forgiving,
What are you thankful for?
Happy Thanksgiving!
